I thank Churchill for his curiosity. His reply to my comment on the post “
Some of us are proud about Cameroon like Petit Pays” laid a foundation of this post. What have I been think about bushfalling? What do I think about bushfalling now? Why the change of opinion?

Let me be plain, and not pretend to stick to popular opinions. “What you see depends on past knowledge and anticipation of what you expect to see”, my physics lecturer told me. The way I now see bushfalling and Bushfallers is very different from the way I saw them a month ago. Let me break it down in three small units.

SUCCESS: I have always known them as the ones who send large sums of money back home, build the best mansions and ride in expensive cute little cars. Well, I can’t pretend it is a lie. That is true for the majority, so, it is true. But success, I believe, is a relative term. How successful are they to themselves, to everyone around them, and to the nation as a whole? Their success to themselves is none of my business. Their success to friends and families is a bit questionable because at times, one can’t really tell whom their friends and families are. Let me focus on the nation. Say I am jealous, if you care, but I believe most of our Bushfallers are very useless to our nation. How do you leave your country, go and invest somewhere else and come back to your country only to show off a few dollars? That’s weird. If you leave empty handed, invest there and never come back, that’s cool by me. But when you collect ever franc that the family has, go and invest where investment is really not “needed”, it raises some ethical concerns. The so called “bush” keeps using you to develop itself and progress while your fatherland is either in a constant state or regressing.

INTELLECTUALITY: Bushfallers have studied the “whiteman’s books”, so they are far more intelligent than us. They reason in “four dimensions” and are quick in solving problems wherever they are. This is true. Yes, tell the world uncleche says so. I have heard of UB students topping the chart in many foreign universities. This proves that our student Bushfallers very smart. If indeed they are very smarts, why are they being paid relatively small salaries while we give foreigners a fortune to do jobs here that our Bushfallers can come and do? I believe those who go there and never dream of coming back are lost, not that they don’t know their way around, but because they have been brainwashed into believing that there is nothing for them back home. Believe me or not, but a fact remains a fact. The white Man is very intelligent. They give you more money than you can be offered back at home but also “force” you to spend it all there. What’s the point? Why choose to live in a strange man’s land where the standard and cost of living is 10 times that of your fatherland. Why not invest a few millions and come back home? We claim they exploited our forefathers because they were not intellectuals. Today, we are intellectuals and they are still exploiting us. If you keep working and spending all the cash there, what becomes of your family and friends back home? How in life will you ever help your country?

PRIDE: I love Lil Kim. That’s my favorite female rapper. In one track by D-Lox, in which she features, she says, “Money, power and respect are the 3 lights”. Imagine when our bushfallers comes back home with a couple of hundreds of dollars. When a bushfaller talks, everyone listens. People admire them as semi Gods. They are the pride of their friends and families. They feel satisfied about life and can command at will. We have been giving them this pride for a long time. They have been full of all the “jests” they can ever have. I was no exception. At first, I used to stare at a bushfaller and say to myself “oh, how I wish I was in his place”. Today, I won’t even want to be Bill Gates. I can name three things I have know/have that Bill Gates doesn’t. The bushfaller ideology is no longer something I value very much as in the old days. I no longer envy a bushfaller. Everyone can make it anywhere, choose yours, and let me choose mine.

I told Churchill that since the creation of bushfalling.com, many ideas I had about bush falling and bushfallers have changed. What I was trying to say was

- I no longer see bushfalling as an opportunity for greater success in life.
- I no longer believe I could have been more intelligent than I am now, if I studied in bush
- Under no condition will I think I am inferior to any bushfaller around me
